As you know, I competed in the PPA last week in Kansas City.

Overall, it was a great trip!

I qualified for Pro Mixed Doubles and Pro Men’s Doubles.

I got to face off against some pretty popular names, like Tyson Mcguffin (#5 Men’s Doubles player) and Vivian Glozman in Mixed Doubles and Jw Johnson and Dylan Frazier (#1 Men’s Doubles team in the world) in Men’s Doubles.

It truly was a privilege to see the level of play from some of the best players in the world.

Unfortunately, me and my teammates weren’t able to get the win, but I learned a TON.

Now I know exactly what to work on. But, more importantly, I get to share my new learnings with you! 😉

My next tournament is the PPA Tour event in Utah next week, so I was back at it immediately after returning from KC.

How to Serve with MAX Power and Consistency 💥🎯

In the week 10 exclusive video, I’m going to show you how to hit a more powerful and consistent serve.

This is one of my favorite topics to teach players. Let’s go!

🦵 Power comes from our back leg

Power does NOT come from our arms – at least not all of it. Instead, our power comes from our back leg. When I hit my serve, I swing my back leg through my entire stroke.

If you half-commit or don’t swing your back leg fully to the front, you’ll never reach your full potential. 😢 

💥 The ball goes where your chest goes

If you serve upward, the ball will go up and away. Instead, you should serve with your chest down through the motion. THAT is how you get the ball over the net like a dart. 🎯

📏 Keep a linear backswing

The final way to get powerful and consistent serves is to keep your arm linear as you swing through the ball. Many people make the mistake of swinging their arms around their bodies, causing the ball to spray all over the place. 💦 

Instead, you want to stay linear with your backswing and keep that line through the ball toward your target. 👈

🔔 Practice

Practicing this is simple. Grab a bunch of balls and simply focus on the tips in the video. Just make sure you do it from both sides of the court to be ready to use a powerful serve during your games! 💪

What I’m Working On Right Now

This past week, I worked on…

AGGRESSIVE DINKING!

After facing off against Jw Johnson and Dylan Frazier in men’s doubles, I took away some valuable information.

With players like that, you cannot rely on “dinking them to death.”

Why?

They simply don’t miss dinks often enough for that to be the base strategy. You have to ‘create’ points to set up opportunities to win.

In other words, you have to play to win, and you cannot play not to lose (like you can in lower levels).

I would do this by dinking more aggressively. By taking more risk with topspin, as opposed to flat balls. This will lead to space on the court for potential attacks!

#1 Key takeaway - I realized that you cannot beat these top players by doing ALL the drills in the world. You can only beat these players by getting reps against players of that caliber.

The more opportunities I have to face off against them, the better my chances to win.

That means doing what it takes to win more qualifiers and becoming the best player I can be!
